School Clubs

We have a wide variety of clubs, which are led by members of our staff supported by parents and, on occasion, by outside coaches who are provided by the Baysgarth School Sports Partnership.

Each club has a standard fee of only £1.00 per session which helps us to provide materials and resources and pay support staff who work beyond their normal school day.   Clubs usually meet after school from 3.00 to 3.45pm.   Where clubs are over-subscribed groups will be formed so all children will have the opportunity to take part.

All parents, coaches and volunteers are fully checked to conform to our Safeguarding Policy.

Art

This club meets on Wednesdays and is led by Mrs Bilton, one of our TAs.   The children usually produce work which is linked to their curriculum topic and is displayed throughout the school.   It gives children extra time to develop skills they have been learning in class.

Sports

This club meets on Thursdays and is led by Mrs Simpson, Mrs Sanderson (TA) and Ms Moorhouse (parent governor).   They are able to take part in a range of sports depending on the season.   Sometimes sports will be on other extra days when sports coaches are available.

Gardening

This club meets on Tuesdays and is led by Mrs Elliot.   They learn a lot of skills and take great pride in looking after our gardens, including our new garden which was installed in 2009.   They have also been involved with the Neighbourhood Watch in planting spring bulbs in the area.

Badminton

This club is led by Mrs Neal and meets on Tuesdays.   Although relatively new, it has quickly become established and popular.

Chess

This club meets on Tuesdays in the Autumn and Spring Terms, led by Mr Gibbs and a local Chess Coach, John Hulley.   It is always well subscribed and children reach a good standard.   In the Spring Term they take part in the British Land Chess Challenge.

Lite Bite

This club is led by Mrs Wass and meets on Tuesdays.   The children learn a lot of cooking skills and are very keen on healthy eating.

This important group meet fortnightly on Tuesdays, led by Miss Laidlaw.   They represent each class in our school and help us to make the school better by bringing ideas from their classes.   They also form our Eco Committee and our School Meals Committee, so they are very busy!

First Aid

This is a new club, led by Mrs Stephenson.   It has proved to be very popular and, by following a scheme of work, gives children good, practical advice on how to keep safe and how to look after others who have had an injury safely.

News Blog Group

This is led by Mrs Wass and they write news stories for our Web blog, which has taken over from our Newspaper while Mrs Price is on maternity leave.  Click to view the Leys Farm Junior School Blog!

Choir

These children meet with Mrs Simpson at different times during the year so they can prepare for Christmas performances and the Primary Schools Music Festival.   The numbers have grown and their talents are really showing through.
