Gary Hammond - The Beautiful South

As part of the Scunthorpe Excellence Cluster we were fortunate to have a visit from Gary Hammond, a percussion player who has played with several groups, including The Beautiful South. Gary brought a huge range of percussion instruments with him and worked with our Year 3 and Year 4 classes. With Year 4 he worked on rhythm, building up to a performance including all the class. With Year 3 he worked on the sounds of the Rain Forest, using unusual percussion sounds and instruments to recreate the sounds of the forest. The morning ended with all the children taking part in a performance of a story led by Gary.
