Numeracy
Follow the Numeracy Strategy
Using the Ginn Abacus scheme the children will have the opportunity to cover this work:
place value, ordering, estimating, rounding, reading numbers, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, money, shape and space, measure, time, fractions and handling data.
Mental arithmetic activities involved with all these themes will be implemented.
English
Fiction and poetry: historical stories and short novels; playscripts; poems based on common themes, e.g. space, school, animals, families, feelings, viewpoints.
Non-Fiction: a range of text-types from reports and articles in newspapers and magazines, etc.; instructions.
Science
The children will investigate the use and purpose of our skeleton and how to keep our bodies healthy including teeth. They will also investigate growth and how keep teeth clean. This will be carried out through experiments, class discussions and research from books and CD Roms.
Thematic work
The topic work will revolve around the subject of Ourselves and the School, including the local area. This will be developed in geography, history and creative work.
