English
Fiction and poetry: classic fiction, poetry and drama by long-established authors including, where appropriate, study of a Shakespeare play; adaptations of classics on film/TV.
Non-Fiction: (i) autobiography and biography, diaries, journals, letters, anecdotes, records of observations, etc. which recount experiences and events; (ii) journalistic writing; (iii) non-chronological reports.
Science
Materials: dissolving, separating mixtures; evaporating, freezing, condensing; reversible and irreversible changes.
Investigations
Geography
Contrasting locality – Chembakolli. Learning about life in an Indian village. Contrast with our own area. Finding out about the landscape, homes and school, the main type of work, trade in goods.
Thematic work
Fishing: the main fishing ports of Britain, types of fishing, history of fishing in Grimsby. Mapwork; using historical documents; observation of artefacts.
Music related to fishing and water – including composing and listening.
Design and Technology
Finding out about structures around us and what they are made from. Make simple structures and test strength and suitability.
ICT
Using the internet to search large databases – related to the thematic work.
