A seven-year-old boy has raised more than £140,000 for victims of the Haiti earthquake

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Charlie, who is from London, was so concerned about the children suffering in the quake that he decided to do something about it and started an online appeal for people to sponser him to ride his bike round his local park.

He rode five miles on Sunday to raise money for the UNICEF children’s appeal.

On his Just Giving page, Charlie said: “I want to do a sponsored bike ride for Haiti because there was a big earthquake and loads of people have lost their lives.

”I want to make some money to buy food, water and tents for everyone in Haiti.”  Charlie was sponsored from as far away as Hong Kong and New Zealand, after people read his appeal on the Just Giving website.

Breakfast club!

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Breakfast club has been a big success all years enjoyed it.  We raised  £27. 77p.

We spent it on a blender which we said we could make smoothies with.

Each year is going to get a chance to do  something with our blender hopefully. Our head teacher said it would be good to make smoothes out of. We have raised this money our selves so well done to everyone.

Hopefully we will enjoy our blender through the year!!

Fire Safety Visit

Friday, January 29th, 2010

On Thursday 28th of Jan we did Fire Safety in school. We talked about how fast fire can rise and spread in less than 3 minutes. We also learnt that you should always have an escape plan.

One thing that made most children sad is that if a child was trapped and they had a pet the fire and rescue service would always save the child first. People are more important.

We are also learnt about what things can make a fire spread. Like tea towels, cup of teas, candles, broken wires, box plugs, stove.

Make sure you don’t have an accident!! .

If we didn’t have a smoke alarm or it does not work the Fire and Rescue Service offered us a free smoke and will also fit it for free. Details are available in school or from the Humberside Fire Safety team.

Water Safety Lesson

Friday, January 29th, 2010

On the 26th of January the Water Safety team from Brigg swimming pool visited our school.

They helped us learn to be careful and safe around water and swimming pools.

The first task was to look at a board and take off the things that are dangerous around pools.

The last lesson was to get a rope and try and save someone they all did it very well.

We had to kneel down and say to them don’t panic, kick your legs and hold the rope with two hands. Then you straight the rope and threw it to them.

It was a very good lesson and everyone liked it.

School Dinners

Friday, January 29th, 2010

The school dinners are very healthy and they are cooked really well. Many children enjoy the dinners.

The cooks are called Mrs J Seeley and Mrs R Bennett. Mrs Seeley cooks the main dinner and Mrs Bennett cooks the pudding.

Dinners cost £1.90 for a day and £9.50 for 1 week! Very good value for money.

Whenever you have school dinners we always have a tasty menu. With meat and Vegetarian Options, you’ll be spoilt for choice!!!

There is a little menu round near each class which is changed every week. Also there is a little sheet next to the menu and it tells you what sitting you are on.

FOOD…GLORIOUS…FOOD!!!

Collecting money for Haiti

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

The school council members India, Shannon, Isaac, Morgan, Megan, Stephanie and Lauren want our school to help Haiti survivors.

We will draw a big outline of the map of Haiti and the children can bring in loose silver change from the 5th of February so that we can collect money to give to Haiti, we are doing this because it will be quick so they can get the money sooner.

On Friday 12th of February, we are going to have a non-uniform day to help raise money for Haiti because they need money to buy the things they need.

School inspection

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

We had our school inspection on 7th and 8th of January 2010,  just two days after the new term began, when there was a lot of snow and ice on the ground.

Two inspectors, a gentleman and a lady came and talked to all of the school about what they are learning about .

We (year 5 and 6) are learning about Africa this term. The Y3/4’s are learning about Greeks this term.  It was very nice to have inspectors in to look at our work and for us to tell them about the things we enjoy doing in school.  It was lucky that the teachers  managed to get into school all week! We didn’t get to go outside all week!!
