Haiti Fundraising

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

We raised £370 for Haiti. We are very happy with this amount, this will really help them.

To help us raise the money we had a non-uniform day and also Miss Laidlaw drew out the map of Haiti and all of the children brought in silver coins to place on the map. These activates were all a great success.

Thank You for all your help!

Fair Trade Fortnight

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Just too make you all aware ‘Fair trade fortnight’ began on Saturday 20th February 2010, and continues on for the next two weeks.

Fair Trade is an organized social movement and market-based approach that aims to help producers in developing countries and promote sustainability. The movement advocates the payment of a higher price to producers as well as social and environmental standards. It focuses in particular on exports from developing countries to developed countries, most notably handicrafts, coffee, cocoa, sugar, tea, bananas, honey, cotton, wine, fresh fruit, chocolate and flowers.

Fair-trade Labelling was created in the Netherlands in the late 1980s. The Max Havelaar Foundation launched the first Fair-trade consumer guarantee label in 1988 on coffee sourced from Mexico. Here in the UK, the Fair-trade Foundation was established in 1992, with the first products to carry the FAIR TRADE Mark launched in 1994. It’s about knowing to care for other people. Also not being offensive to others around you.

Cinema angry over Disney Film

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Odeon cinemas say they’re not going to show the upcoming Alice in Wonderland film in the UK, Ireland and Italy.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         `

They’re angry because Disney, which made the film, will release it on DVD 12 weeks after it goes to cinema, which is seven weeks less than normal.

Odeon says they’ll make less money from showing the film, because people will be able to buy it on DVD earlier than usual.

The 3D film stars Johnny Dippy and is based on the classic children’s book.

Check out pics of Alice in Wonderland

Disney say they’re releasing the DVD early to try to cut down on piracy. That’s when people illegally put films up on the internet or sells fake DVDs of them.

But Odeon reckons this 12-week time period between cinema release and DVD release will soon become the norm, meaning cinemas will lose out on cash.

Premiere plans

If you’re desperate to see the film – don’t worry! Other cinema chains will be showing it.

Cineworld has come to an agreement with Disney and they say they’ll be putting it on.

Vue is understood to have come to an agreement too, but details haven’t been announced yet.

Even though Odeon is refusing to screen Alice in Wonderland, the cinema chain will host the film’s premiere in London’s Leicester Square this week.

The Odeon & UCI Cinema Group is Britain’s biggest cinema chain – they’ve got more than 100 sites across the UK.

Keeping Safe this half term

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

As you know we are having a half term for a full week, we need to try and stay safe through it.

We are trying to tell our adults where we all are all of the time. We need to be safe near parks, people, buildings, houses, and especially on the main streets, they are very important.

Another thing is don’t talk to strangers. Always tell your parents were you are so they know were you are.
