The yr 3s and 4s were going to Mr Colman’s farm on the 9^th amd 10^th of June but sadly it has been cancelled because it will be raining.  They are quite upset but they have another exciting trip to the Far Ings Nature Reserve on the “5^th of June, how exciting!

There will many things to enjoy such as two special workshops, pond dipping and Art to do with the wild, in which they will create artwork based on the colours and textures to be found there.

This will be a great day out for them. There is a price to be paid which is only £7.00, also they can take up to £2.00 to spend at the gift shop to remember there day.

A RAF pilot was flying his helicopter  when a bullet hit his helmet it was 3 cm from killing him .

It shows how a helmet can save your life!!!!.

He said “I’m very attached to this particular helmet,”

“You can actually see, at the top here is the night vision goggle rail, where we normally hang our night vision goggles. And you can see the gouge where the bullet actually struck.

“It then grooved up and tore through the skin of the helmet at the top and all these holes in the visors are where fragments of that bullet actually came through so had it not been for this chunk of metal here I may not have been sitting here today.”

He was lucky he was wearing his helmet.

On 18th of May, Daniel, Ethan, Jordan, Conner, Lauren, Aisha, Hannah, Rhys, Lewis, Aiden, Connor, Ellie and I all went to study united which is at a football stadium Glanford Park. We got picked up on a study united mini-bus and headed on our way.
When we arrived Bryon and his helpers told us about how to build good structures. Too help find out more we went out and sat at the seats at the side of the football pitch. To make a good structure we noticed from the slideshow and from the stadium that triangles help the building stay up and not fall down as easily.
After we talked outside we went inside and had to make models of our own. We had to make it strong using spaghetti and marshmallows. It had to be strong enough to hold up a box of Jaffa cakes for 1 minute. Watching most of them collapse was funny. Ellie’s and Rhys are held up to 1 minute. (Mine lasts 10seconds)
Afterwards there was another challenge; we had to use paper, cello tape and hot glue to make a structure to hold up to 296grams of beans which is 74 cans. Mine didn’t work but Daniel’s and Lewis’s made is. They were very happy.
But that was the end of our lesson sadly so we were took home once again on the mini-bus and returned to school

A light aircraft crashed into a house and left it wrecked.  It happened in Florida in America. Luckily, no-one was seriously hurt.

The man who owned the house – Richard Certoli – was one of the people inside who managed to escape. The three people on board the aircraft got away with minor injuries. People from streets came crowding round to see what had happened and everyone was so interested to find out more about it the man did a speech.

The plane came down at such speed that the pilot didn’t have time to stop, he was really high and the wind just blew him to the ground. 

It was a lucky escape for everyone.

An oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Louisiana has spread to cover more than 1,800 square miles as of Monday afternoon. The oil spill is coming from a leak in the well that was drilled by the Transocean Deepwater Horizon, a giant offshore drilling rig that exploded and sank last week. The oil spill is reported to be leaking about t 42,000 gallons a day from a well nearly a mile deep. The U.S. Coast Guard has been using robot subs to try to stop the leak.

The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is expected to remain about 30 miles offshore, based on an analysis of ocean currents and weather patterns. In a statement Monday, the Coast Guard warned states along the Gulf Coast to be on alert. The oil rig that burned and sank was drilling a well about 50 miles off the Louisiana coast, putting that state’s shoreline at the highest risk.

In class this term we are studying a topic called “lights, camera, action!” which is a very interesting and to make it more interesting Miss Laidlaw and Mr Gibbs have arranged a visit to help us learn more about this topic this term. It is arranged for Tuesday the 25^th of May in Bradford. This will be a hands on experience.

We have also booked a showing of a 3D film in the special IMAX cinema at the museum.  The IMAX films are shown on a screen which is 15m high and 20m wide with a special sound system.  The 3D film we will be “Wild Ocean “which has been filmed to capture the feeding frenzy in the seas of south Africa as billions of fish migrate up the coast.

The cost of the visit is a good price, it is only £12.50 and if you want you can send your child with £3 to spend in the gift shop. Last years Yr6s loved it! 

You will need to have a pack lunch and we will return to school at about 4:00pm

Just off the coast of north Devon 11 children and adults were caught in a wave which was called a rip tide which dragged them out to sea.

They got a nearby surfer and sea kayak to help keep the kids afloat until they could be rescued.

It happened on Woolacombe beach and it took of three trips to take the people back to shore.

This was very dangerous and it is lucky that they survived, the people where so happy that they got back safe and sound.

Here at Leys Farm children from Y3/4 were surprised by the amazing animals of the Rainforest visit.

We had a Rainforest Adventurer come in she showed us the surprises of the rainforest was revealed in Y3/4

My favourite animal was the rabbit or the snake.

My least favourite creature’s were the cockroach, the tarantula & the millipede.

The wonders of the rainforest is what we need to know about these animals and creatures.. (WE NEED TO CARE!), The trees,.. (WE NEED TO CARE!),… The living world (WE NEED TO CARE!), So as I said before…

A local Pcso came in and talked to the years 5 and 6. Alan Tye talked about safety with bicycles and mobile phones.

Here are some things we found out:

* Croggers are illegal;

* You always need to wear a helmet;

* You cannot ride next to your friend on the road but should be riding in single file so you don’t take up too much space;

* If you are riding at night, you need to have lights on your bike that work. Reflectors alone are not enough.

* It is illegal to go through red traffic lights, even if you go on the pavement. You need to wait till the light turns green.

* Make sure you sit down on your seat because it helps you control yourself and it has more grip, and is safer;

*Make sure your bike is the right size for you;

*If you are on the road make sure it is on the right side and WATCH for cars.

Some of the things we found out about keeping safe with our mobiles include:

*Don’t give out other people’s mobile numbers;

*If you get funny phone calls, tell a responsible adult;

*Report it to the phone company or the police;

*Change your number and don’t give it out.
