Welcome to Class BH!

Class Teacher – Miss Hood

Teaching Assistant – Mrs Rennie

I have loved welcoming you back into the classroom after such a long time away. We have been busy putting together safety guidelines in order to keep you as safe as possible, such as washing hands and staying in our ‘bubble’. You have been fantastic at adapting to them!

Exciting things are going to be happening this Autumn term with our topic of World War II. Within this topic, we will be understanding how World War II started, experiencing first-hand what life was like in our own Air Raid Shelter and exploring the life of an evacuee. Parents - I’m sure that your child will be coming home and asking lots of questions, so we have included lots of links for children to use for research on our curriculum document.

During English, we will be reading ‘The Moonlight Hare’ by Ruth Eastham as our Power Reads book, creating poetry about aspects of the story and then moving onto character description. As well as this, we will be reading ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’ by Onjali Q. Rauf as our class book.

Please complete at least two texts from Read Theory a week and keep going on and Spelling Shed. Log ins have been sent home, but ask if lost.

For Maths, we will be focussing on place value, the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division), decimals and fractions. We will have a big focus on Timetables this term as they will feature frequently in our work. So, keep going on TT Rockstars and get yourself onto the leader board!

We will be often learning outdoors if the weather stays nice and will be widening our learning through lots of creative activities. As well as this, the children will get an exciting opportunity to learn French with Mrs Herrera, who is completely fluent in the language!

Our PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday, children will be required to bring their PE kit on Monday ready to be used. Football in the Community, on Tuesdays, will be working with the children on games sessions outside.

Parents - please help us in supporting your child at home with the following:

  • Learning their times tables, as children are expected to know all of them.
  • Learning their spellings.
  • Ensuring PE kits are washed and in school on Monday to ensure they can always take part. Remove earrings or cover prior to the lesson too.
  • Discussing the world around you to improve vocabulary.

I am looking forward to a great term with you,

Miss Hood
