Welcome to Class ML!

It has been so fantastic to welcome you lovely children back into the classroom after such a long time away. We have been busy putting lots of things in place in order to keep you as safe as possible and I would like to thank you for following our guidelines.

We have lots of exciting learning ahead of us this term. Our topic is WWII (one of Miss Lunson's favourites!) and we shall be tying this in to as many different subjects so that your learning is as interesting as possible. We will be focusing on key events and how the war affected different people both at home and abroad (particularly children). Parents - I'm sure your child will have many questions: we have included lots of links for children to use for research on our curriculum document.

In English lessons, we will be looking lots of different types of writing and beginning to produce longer pieces with more complex structures and punctuation. We will be using our Power Reads book - The Moonlight Hare by Ruth Eastham to guide us to become more skilful readers. The book is set just after WWII and explores the effects of the war. We will also be reading Letters from the Lighthouse by Emma Carroll as our class story.

Please complete at least two texts from Read Theory a week and keep going on and Spelling Shed. Log ins have been sent home, but please ask if lost.

In Maths we will be focusing on place value, the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) and beginning to develop our understanding of fractions. Timetables feature in lots of maths work this year, so keep going on TT Rockstars and get yourself onto that leader board (we're very competitive in ML when it comes to TT Rockstars!)

We will be broadening our learning with lots of creative activities (keep checking back for pictures) and often learning outdoors if the weather stays nice. Children also get to learn French with Mrs Herrera, who is completely fluent in the language.

Our PE days are Monday and Friday - so please remember your kit.

I look forward to a great term with you,

Miss Lunson
