Welcome to Class RS and a special welcome to the new Year 3 children and their families. On this page you can find out a little bit more about what we are learning in class.
This term’s topic is… ‘A Child Like Me.’
Our topic is all about our children and what makes them special and unique! Our children will get the opportunity to compare how their lives are similar and different to the lives of children all around the world and explore the different things that make them who they are. We encourage you to talk about this at home and celebrate all the things that make you and your families special.
In Maths this half term, we will be mainly focusing on Place Value to ensure the children have a secure knowledge of the concept that underpins many other mathematical concepts. Later in the half term, we will begin to move onto addition and subtraction, exploring both mental and formal written methods. Like always, we encourage you to practise times tables with your children at home regularly. The aim for the end of the year is that the Year 3s are fluent with their 2s, 5s and 10s from KS1 and their 3s, 4s and 8s, whilst the Year 4s have a trickier challenge, as by the end of the year (in June) they are expected to be fluent in all of their times tables up to 12 x 12. A brilliant way to practise is by logging onto our TT Rockstars which allows the children to practise in a fun and engaging way.
Each week, your child will receive spellings, in line with the national curriculum, that they must learn and practise. The children will be tested on the spellings for the week on a Friday. More often than not, the spellings your child is set follow a spelling pattern. Another wonderful app to engage and encourage your children to learn their spellings is Spelling Shed. It is fantastic! We will also be sending home the statutory word list for Year 3 and 4, please try to help your child read and spell the words, we are also doing this in class.
Quick reminder, our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. Please send in PE kit on a Monday.
Here’s to a wonderful year in Class RS.
